What are our chances for rain?

An axis of mid-level moisture combined with a low-level jet and an upper-air disturbance in the northwest flow will result in a few scattered showers and isolated t-showers nearby this morning. The overall coverage will be very limited, but a few locations will pick up a shower or thunderstorms. As the disturbance slides from the west to east, and the low-level jet weakens by midday, probabilities will decrease.

Thursday Rain 10/10/24

Another weak disturbance will move across southeastern Oklahoma late tonight and early tomorrow morning, resulting in a few spotty showers or storms in those regions. The potential for significant measurable precipitation remains very low. Most of the area will remain precipitation-free for the foreseeable future.

What is the forecast for the rest of the week?

As the morning to midday clouds continue to thin, additional sunshine this afternoon will take temperatures back into the mid-80s.

Thursday Highs 10/10/24

Overnight lows will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s, with daytime highs near 90.

Friday Highs 10/10/24

Hot weather will arrive Saturday with afternoon highs near 93 in the metro and even hotter conditions across the western half of the state, where some locations could be nearing 100. Some locations will be nearing daily record highs on Saturday.

This weekend, a major trough will develop across the Great Lakes region and amplify. This will allow a significant front to quickly move southward late Saturday night and enter northern Oklahoma early Sunday morning.

As the front moves south, it will bring cooler weather to the northern third of the state Sunday afternoon after highs reach the lower to mid-80s, while locations across southern Oklahoma will remain in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Gusty north winds behind the frontal passage will bring cooler weather for early next week.

When will it start to feel like fall?

Monday morning’s temperatures will start in the 50s, with daytime highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s. A strong surface ridge of high pressure will develop across the central and northern High Plains Monday afternoon and effectively bring another surge of cooler weather into northern Oklahoma late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

Morning Low Timeline 10/10/24

The result will be another reduction in temperature, with morning lows in the lower to mid-40s and daytime highs in the upper 60s north and lower 70s south. There remains a very low-end chance for a few spotty showers Tuesday near or west of the area, but most locations will remain precipitation-free.

Temperature Timeline 10/10/24

Wednesday morning, the surface ridge of high pressure will be settled across far northeastern Oklahoma into the Mid-Missouri Valley. Clear skies, dry air, and light wind may allow temperatures to drop into the upper 30s in some valleys of eastern Oklahoma, while most locations will begin Wednesday morning in the mid-40s.

Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures will return into the 70s. While next week brings a pleasant taste of fall weather, the potential for significant precipitation remains elusive at this moment for most of Oklahoma.
