10-Year-Old Passes Away, Donating Organs Following OKC House Fire

"They were very, very close. Johnathan, the boy, he was a momma's boy and a daddy's boy," Newlon said. "Johnathan, I don't know if he woke up or just heard them, but he was trying to save his mom and that's how he got caught on fire."

A 10-year-old boy has passed away after he suffered burns on most of his body during a house fire in Oklahoma City, his family said.

Johnathan Hill's doctor confirmed he had no brain activity, according to his family. On Monday, loved ones gathered at the hospital so Hill could be taken off life support. His organs will be donated, his family said.

As of Monday afternoon, his family said Hill remained on life support to allow for the organ donation team to get ready.

Hill was critically injured after his home on Southwest 38th Street in Oklahoma City caught fire on Sept. 7. He suffered burns on 90% of his body and was placed in a medically-induced coma, his family said.

Hill was the second family member to pass away following the blaze. His grandmother, Susan Trousdale, who he affectionally called mom because she had adopted him, also died, said Maryl Newlon, Trousdale's great-niece.

"They were very, very close. Johnathan, the boy, he was a momma's boy and a daddy's boy," Newlon said. "Johnathan, I don't know if he woke up or just heard them, but he was trying to save his mom and that's how he got caught on fire."

The Oklahoma City Fire Department said Trousdale was pronounced dead at the scene and the cause of the blaze was under investigation.

Johnathan Hill's 11-year-old sister, Kaelynn Hill, was able to escape the fire and went to a neighbor for help, his family said.

"She's in shock, she's upset and she's scared. And she's been through a lot already, let's just say that, and now, on top of this, she's going to need therapy," said Newlon.

Trousdale's husband, Wayne Hill, who adopted Johnathan and Kaelynn with Trousdale, was at the hospital recovering from a major spinal surgery when the fire happened.

Anyone wishing to help the family with funeral costs and other expenses can donate to their GoFundMe page by clicking here.
