A shooting investigation in Oklahoma City has more questions than answers right now. Police say one person is in custody -- but that person was shot during the incident.
Police say Joseph Lopez was arrested for possessing a stolen firearm-- but had a gunshot wound himself following the shooting at London Square Apartments.
Investigators are still trying to piece together exactly what happened-- and find out if more people are involved.
“It was early yesterday morning when police received a call of shots fired at the London Square Apartments," said Msgt. Gary Knight with Oklahoma City Police.
Officers responded and police say a red mustang sped off from the scene as soon as they arrived.
"Officers got behind that vehicle and eventually caught up to it but not before they saw somebody from inside throw a gun out," said Knight. "Another officer stopped and retrieved the firearm which turned out to be a stolen gun.”
Officers stopped Joseph Lopez, the driver of the mustang, near Northwest 23rd and MacArthur.
"Turns out the driver was also the victim of a shooting,” Knight said. “He had a bullet wound to his body."
That's why investigators believe more suspects could be involved. Lopez was treated and released at the hospital before being booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center for possession of the stolen firearm.
"Investigators are still trying to piece together what happened with the shooting, how many people were involved, and what caused it all in the first place," Knight said.
Oklahoma City Police say the investigation is still in the early stages but told News 9 it does appear as though Lopez was shot by someone else. We'll bring you updates as soon as they become available on our app and website.
