News 9 This Morning's Robin Marsh recently traveled to New York City to interview Nate Burleson on the set of CBS Mornings.

Nate says co-anchoring the flagship morning news program has been a lot of hard work, and a life changing experience, and it has all happened in just two short years.

"This is the biggest platform, and I am forever grateful they gave me this opportunity. It's weird to say, but it happened organically, and it almost happened overnight. It does take time for a group to get to know each other. I come from the sports background, so you don't walk into a locker room and be buddies or brothers right away. It takes a little bit of the challenges. The success is the roller coaster ride," Burleson said.

CBS Mornings co-anchor Gayle King says Nate brings so much to the table every morning.

"He is one of these people that also takes the job very seriously. He has an athletic background, but did you know he writes poetry and he's very big into fashion? He is so well-rounded about so many different things. So, for me, it is fun to work with him every day, and let's just say it's never boring when Nate Burleson is in the house," King said.

Success seems to follow Burleson everywhere. He is enjoying a prominent broadcasting career in sports and news. He played in the NFL for 11 years. He has a beautiful family. He and his wife, Atoya, have three children.

And there is an Oklahoma connection for Nate Burleson: His wife was born in Oklahoma.

"Her best friend graduated from Langston, and she has a ton of relatives who still live there. It dates back a long time to even Black Wall Street. Her great grandfather owned the hotel and had a real estate company. So there are ties that run really deep in Oklahoma for us," Burleson said.

Burleson says morning news brings a crazy schedule.

"So, if you love what you do and love the people you work with, you are never really working that hard. That's the job. Difficult for sure, 4 a.m. wake-up calls that never come around on time. But as soon as the lights go on, it's game time," he said.

Burleson had great things to say about Oklahoma.

"We look at you as a mere reflection of what we are doing. Just keeping it real: there are certain places in the country that are truly the heartbeat of what we do and who we are as a nation, and Oklahoma is one of those places."
