It's a welcome sight to riders, when the wait is finally over.
Especially for Gabbi Benavidez, with her children, Jojo and Anna.
"This is our only way of transportation right now... As far as grocery shopping as far as doctors appointments things like that. It helps us get around to a lot of places and there are not too many places out of reach," said Benavidez.
And Oklahoma City's latest transportation addition, isn’t out of reach either. Oklahoma City public transportation is getting a new rapid transit bus fleet.
Jason Ferbrache, Director Public Transportation said they are, "10 weeks away from what we in the transit business call revenue service." And that this upgrade is, " The most significant transit project that [they've] done since the streetcar."
The 32 stop, 9 and a half mile route will connect downtown to Lake Hefner.
"You’re talking about a 35 minute trip from one end to the other," said Ferbrache.
1 of 9 buses arrive every 12 minutes during peak hours. A transformation in time, for those who commute like Benavidez.
2 years of planning and construction, the wait is nearly over. A wait the city hopes is worth it.
