Oklahoma City Council To Discuss City Tax For New Arena

Members of the Oklahoma City Council are set to discuss the penny sales tax to fund a new arena Tuesday morning.

The city's existing arena, the Paycom Center, was constructed in 2002 as part of the original MAPS program.

Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt said he hopes to replace the aging facility with a new $900 million arena.

That facility would be paid for largely by taxpayers. The proposed tax is not a new tax, but is rather a continuation of the existing MAPS 4 penny tax.

City leaders are expected to vote on whether to send that proposal to the voters during Tuesday's city council meeting.

If that vote passes the council, voters will express their attitudes towards a new arena during a special election on Dec. 12.
