'Make Practice More Intense Than A Game:' OU Players On Venables' Plan To Prep For Kansas

As OU game plans for Kansas this week, there is one question mark: Will the Sooners have to deal with Jalon Daniels?

The conference's preseason offensive MVP has missed the last three games with a back injury- the Jayhawks have lost two of those.

Is Jalon Daniels playing for Kansas this week?

On Monday, Kansas Head Coach Lance Leipold said Daniels is Doubtful/Questionable for Saturday.

For the Sooners this week, News 9's Dylan Rivera learned the focus for the defense this week is "eyes".

"We got to stay disciplined with our eyes all week," said OU linebacker Dasan McCullough. "We saw what happened, we thought we were disciplined with them during the week last week but come gameday obviously not."

The new focus this week comes after the Sooners gave up a few too many big plays against UCF and head coach Gus Malzahn's offense.

"There's a lot of stuff we gotta fix just with our eyes really. It's all little stuff. It's all about us, not really the opponent," McCullough said.

Defensive lineman Ethan Downs said coach Venables is upping the practice intensity this week to help ensure a faster start to the game than last Saturday.

"Coach (Venables) wants to make the practice even more intense than the game," Downs said. "So being disciplined in those moments where it's more intense and chaotic makes us prepared for the game, makes the game slower."
