Tishomingo Crash Victims' Families File Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against ODOT

A year and a half after tragedy struck Tishomingo, the families of 6 teen girls killed in a crash are suing the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

The wrongful death lawsuit reveals new details in this heartbreaking story. 

The families of all 6 teens lost at this intersection, are now calling for change, saying this intersection has never been safe. Their wrongful death suits against ODOT allege the agency hasn't done enough. 

In March of 2022, a tragic crash claimed the lives of 6 teen girls. "It's heartbreaking our thoughts and prayers go out to that whole community," Eric Foster with OHP said in 2022. 

According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the young girls were driving at SH-22 and US-377 when they were hit by a semi. 

Now, the families have filed lawsuits against ODOT, saying the 6 girls are among dozens killed at that intersection. The suits say the intersection has quote, "successfully claimed the lives of close to 100 motorists over the past 10 years." They go on to say, that residents and drivers passing through “...are forced to maneuver through a death trap...” 

Back in 2022, the National Transportation Safety Board and OHP launched an investigation into the crash. "Pull data from both vehicles, they interview witnesses, any people who may have survived the crash," 

The lawsuits claim ODOT was aware of the dangerous intersection; they accuse ODOT of  "disregarding numerous complaints of the dangerous conditions of [the] intersection" along with other claims of negligence. ODOT sent a response to News 9 saying in part, it is working with the City of Tishomingo and is "...in the process of determining the appropriate solution for that location..." 

We reached out to the attorney representing the families but did not hear back.
