A nonprofit in Tulsa is helping people who have been behind bars find jobs and get the training they need to succeed.

Center for Employment Opportunities Tulsa has been around for over a decade. It's now moved into a new facility downtown, allowing it to help more people than before.

The site director said the program is only for people who have been incarcerated and are now looking to get back to work.

Shawna Detmer said its new downtown location also allows it to add more training opportunities for jobs like CDL licenses and welding certifications.

All careers Detmer believes will allow participants to not only take care of themselves, but also their families.

"It’s really important to us that folks are able to pursue economic mobility once they are released from prison. We believe that people deserve the opportunity to pursue opportunities to support themselves and their family despite their past. And it’s really important to us that folks are able to earn a living wage," Detmer said.
