Rogers State University has a new program designed to help students deal with the challenges that come with university life.
It is a peer-to-peer mentorship program founded and run by students in the Master of Science in community counseling program.
Any student, whether they are a first-time student or someone returning to college after time off, can take part in this peer mentorship program.
Chris Harrison, one of the co-founders, said peer-to-peer mentorship has some benefits that help students in ways professional counseling services may not.
"We are maybe more relatable in some ways and it's more casual cause some people don’t want to have a one on one counseling with a counselor. So we are counselors in training, more supervised, but it’s more of a friendly space I suppose," Harrison said.
So far, there have been a few students who have participated in individual and group settings.
Peer mentoring services are available Monday through Friday and on weekends depending on volunteer availability.
