The City of Tulsa signed a $25.5 million contract to buy an empty office building that will become Tulsa’s new Public Safety Center.

Voters approved funding for the purchase price and $20 million for renovations in August.

The contract is on the former State Farm Insurance regional office, on the North side of the Broken Arrow Expressway near129th East Avenue.

It will be the headquarters for police, fire, and emergency management, and eventually, the site for fleet maintenance as well.

“We think that this acquisition is a really good deal for the taxpayers, at substantially less cost than building a new facility,” said Mayor G.T. Bynum.

Tulsa Police will move out of the Police Courts building downtown, leaving the Municipal courts in the building, but eventually, the courts are expected to move into a new County Courthouse.

The Tulsa Fire Department will leave its headquarters at Newblock Park.

Police will also relocate the Mingo Valley Division to the new building.

“Having all of those public safety functions in that site will create great efficiencies and better collaboration than having all of those functions spread around town,” said Bynum.

The current police court building will eventually be demolished.
