A new Black-owned urgent care facility is opening near 51st and Peoria and the owners say it will make it easier for residents to reach doctors for urgent needs.
One of the owners of NovaStar Family Medicine, Natalie Jones, is a Family Nurse Practitioner and said her goal is to help as many people as possible.
NovaStar Family Medicine has been a primary care located in North Tulsa for the past three years.
The owners will be opening NovaStar Express Care on Nov. 14, for the community’s urgent care needs.
Jones said members of the North Tulsa community can be seen for urgent needs. She said people do not have to travel to hospitals to wait in emergency rooms for medical concerns that aren’t real emergencies.
Jones said her background is in urgent care and she would see a lot of people that didn’t know what primary care was. She said patients would come to urgent care for hypertension or diabetes medication refills.
“Non-emergencies that need immediate care is what the urgent care is for. So, you cut your finger while you're cooking. Your children come home and they’re sick. But you didn't come home until 6 o’clock, but they can’t go to school the next day and you need a note for school. That’s an urgent care need," Jones said.
NovaStar Express Care will be having a grand opening on Nov. 13 and will be open to see patients on Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday – Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.
