The man who murdered two random strangers, because they were white, is headed to prison for life without parole.
Carlton Gilford pled guilty to shooting Lundin Hathcock at the Rudisill Library and James McDaniel in a QuikTrip.
Hathcock's mother, DeeDee Clapp, spoke in court Monday and told Gilford her son was a kind, loveable, and smart man who loved the outdoors.
Clapp brought a framed picture of her son. She told Gilford she prays for forgiveness for him every day, and is at peace with "God's judgement" of him. Gilford kept his head down while she spoke.
"My son, he had his faults, but he was a good man. And as you can see, he was loved. And he leaves his two sisters and he was my only son. And he will be so greatly missed," Clapp said.
The other victim, James McDaniel, didn't have family in the courtroom at the time of sentencing.
Gilford was sentenced on two counts of murder, two counts of shooting with intent to kill, and Oklahoma's version of a hate crime law.
