Preparations are underway for Tulsa’s 45th annual MLK Parade. The Greenwood Chamber of Commerce wants to offer something unique for MLK Day, beyond the parade.
For the first time on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the chamber plans to hold the Original Black Wall Street Merchant Marketplace.
Organizer Meghan Scott said The Marketplace is designed to bring more people to Greenwood Avenue. The Marketplace highlights mainly Black businesses in the Tulsa metro.
She also said it’s a great opportunity to collaborate with the organizers of the day.
They plan to have live music, games, and other forms of entertainment for people to enjoy.
"It’s so important. It's important because we are rebuilding Greenwood right now. The community is not where we want it to be. I feel like The Marketplace is a great opportunity to be that foundation to rebuild the community, to rebuild the small businesses that are out there," Scott said.
The Greenwood Chamber of Commerce is now looking for vendors who want to participate.
The Marketplace will be open on MLK Day, January 15, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
