Things in life happen, but the city of Broken Arrow reminded residents that there's a way to help notify them about what's going on.
"It's a really targeted system that we can let folks know when something's happening that may affect their daily lives," said Aaron McColloch with the City of Broken Arrow.
This is the second year the city has used the Code Red emergency alert system. It sends notifications to the community about disasters, emergencies, extreme weather and more.
"We can also use it to alert them about road closures, water main repairs, water line breaks," said McColloch.
He said fortunately they don't have to use the system very often.
"It's one of those systems that you need, and you want to have, but you don't ever want to have to use it because when you do it means that there's some type of disruption in folk's lives."
And even though some folks in BA haven't heard of it before, they're glad to know about it now, before disaster strikes. "I think it's a good idea. I think they need something like this, especially with technology. Not everyone is on social media so if you have some other form of emergency alert system you'll need to be notified," said Broken Arrow resident Coby Hughes.
McColloch said Broken Arrow residents can sign up here on the city's website. Several frequently asked questions about the system are also listed.
To get the alerts, people who live in Broken Arrow do have to sign up. The alerts can come through via voice calls, text messages or emails.
