The TU men's basketball team opened up conference play Thursday night at home, hosting 15th-ranked Memphis.
The Tigers were the reigning AAC champions and came in with an 11-2 record.
The Golden Hurricane was looking to protect its undefeated home court record this season. In the first half, PJ Haggerty pulled up beyond the arc and missed the three, but Carlous Williams with the rebound and put back, TU took the lead back.
Matt Reed found Isaiah Barnes for three, nothing but net. Golden Hurricane pulled within one 15-14 Memphis.
PJ Haggerty set his offense up, and his defender was playing off, so why not do what he does best: attack the basket. Count the layup, and one.
Second half, TU was on a roll... Williams drove the baseline, and found Jared Garcia open at the top of the key for the three. It's up and good.
TU went on a 7-0 run to lead to this dagger... Jahvon Quinerly, the only three made in the second half by the Tigers came at the perfect time.
The final from Reynolds, 78 to 75. Memphis taking the win. PJ Haggerty with 27 points.
TU hits the road to East Carolina on Sunday. It's the furthest road trip so far this season.
