Sapulpa announced it's working on a new and much bigger bike trail system that will connect the city with other communities.
The City of Sapulpa said it's about 75-percent finished with a bike trail project that goes from the east side of Kelly Lane Park to Jefferson Heights Elementary School.
But, it's about to get started on an even bigger trail system with the help of The Indian Nations Council of Governments, or INCOG.
INCOG will provide resources while helping create a master plan that's both safe and convenient for bicyclists and pedestrians.
Sapulpa is the 12th city in the region to join INCOG's GO Plan.
Parks Director Carson Lynch said this is a big benefit for people in Sapulpa that opens doors to many opportunities.
"Recently, Route 66 has been designated a U.S. bike route. And so this will, obviously Route 66 goes right through the City of Sapulpa, and so that will give us opportunities to do many things," Lynch said.
Lynch said they're not sure how far the trails will go yet. But for reference, the 9-1-8 Trail System goes all the way from Skiatook to Sand Springs.
He also said a lot of public input will help in the planning process.
