The Tulsa Health Department is holding a new series of town hall meetings, specifically for Tulsa's female population.
THD is targeting women aged 18 to 42, in hopes of helping both with sexual health issues, and education to prevent infant mortality.
THD’s Raven Helmick said these town halls are a small piece of a larger project out of a Tulsa Fetal and Infant Mortality Review study, which looks at fetal and infant deaths that happen in the community.
These town halls will focus on ways to reduce those rates in Tulsa County.
The town halls will also address rising rates of sexually transmitted infections, or STIs, which are becoming more prevalent in the Tulsa area.
"Asking them information on where they get STI information, where would they go if they have questions? Then we’ll have some facilitated discussions where they have that opportunity to open up, share their experiences, and provide feedback on how they think we can improve this in the county," Helmick said.
THD has several other resources beyond the community town hall with other testing agencies if you don’t feel comfortable coming to their program.
The first town hall is January 31 at Rudisill Regional Library at 5:30 p.m.
