16-Year-Old Owasso Student Dies At Hospital 1 Day After Fight At High School

An Owasso High School student died at the hospital on Thursday, one day after their parent told police that they was involved in a fight at the school.

Nick Boatman with Owasso Police said the student's parent called officers to the hospital around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Officers said the parent told them that the 16-year-old was involved in a physical altercation that occurred at the end of the school day on Wednesday.

Police said the student didn't tell school officials or officers about a fight until the hospital visit.

On Thursday, police said that the teenager went back to the hospital and was pronounced dead.

Police said it is not known if the death was related to the fight or not.

Owasso Police said detectives are investigating and there is no further information at this time.

Owasso Public Schools shared the following statement Thursday night:

"The Owasso Police Department has notified district leaders of the death of an Owasso High School student. The student's name and cause of death have not yet been made public. As this is an active police investigation, we will have no additional comment at this time. Further inquiries should be directed to the Owasso Police Department.

"The district will have additional counselors at the school to provide support to students and staff beginning on Friday."
