The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame will induct its new class of artists Saturday night, February 17 in Muskogee.
David Webb is one of the inductees and a Governor Award recipient. He joined us on the Arca Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch.
Webb started his multi-faceted career in the music business in 1963 when Music Impresario Jim Halsey hired him to put up show posters in Southeast Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma for upcoming shows on his artist roster.
Those artists included Roy Clark, Wanda Jackson, Hank Thompson, and Leon McAuliffe.
James Brown asked Webb if he would consider leaving the Halsey Co., and work as his manager.
Webb decided to make that move and enjoyed his time working "on the road" with Brown. Webb said it was a real education hearing about Mr. Brown and his life stories, directly from the man himself.
Webb was recently a producer for the musical "Nanyehi." Webb changed titles from being the producer to executive producer in 2019. He continues in the executive producer role today.
He also promoted and produced the "Super Bowl of Rock" shows at Soldier Field in Chicago. Some of the acts promoted and produced there were Pink Floyd, the Sex Pistols, Journey, Lynrd Skynyrd, Cyndi Lauper, and many more.
Webb will be inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame this weekend. He's a Governor Award recipient, which is for significant contributions to the industry.
"This is a very special award for notable accomplishment in the realm of Oklahoma Music and is given at the discretion of the electoral boards based on our standard nomination processes. This is an award designed for those who make or have made significant contributions and do not fit any of our existing categories. This award is given for people within the business of the music business," said Tony L. Corbell.
The other inductees are Ricochet, Bryan White, Timothy Long, Verlon Thompson, Jerry Huffer, and Shelby Eicher.
