The Tulsa Drillers are reminding people to take a break from their devices and focus on what matters on Friday's Global Day of Unplugging by opening up their stadium for people to enjoy the great outdoors.
The Global Day of Unplugging is all about putting the phone down and being present with the people you love. And the Drillers stadium had a good option for people to do just that.
"It's all about taking time to intentionally put your device down and have connections with people around you," said Micayla Carlson with US Cellular.
On a sunny afternoon at Drillers stadium, people were invited to stroll around the diamond and take their kids to check out the playground as a good reminder to unplug.
“We think it's important to unplug from technology, from your phone; that's what we promote here when you come out for 2-3 hours for a game," said Brianna Root. "To enjoy time with your family and friends and soak in those memories.”
Brianna Root with the Drillers said the team is gearing up for a huge season, and there is a lot to enjoy that isn’t baseball.
“We have a lot going on. Our season starts April 9th, we will have fireworks on opening day, and 24 fireworks shows for 2024.”
Carlson with US Cellular said her company has a lot of ideas for people to unplug.
She said to put your phone away in a drawer so you won’t be tempted, focus on spending time with your friends and family with no devices, and get outside to work out or chill out and focus on nature without distractions.
“Enjoy the weather, enjoy nature. Your physical and mental self will be thankful for it," Carlson said.
