Actor Wendell Pierce Talks With Dave Davis About CBS Show 'Elsbeth'

There's a new CBS drama that's just premiered. It's a quirky, whodunit titled "Elsbeth." Wendell Pierce who plays Captain Wagner joins Dave Davis to talk more about the show.

What was it like getting back to work after the writer and actor strike?

"We were all excited to be back to work. We have a great environment at Elsbeth. And that really comes from the top down. You know, Robert King and Michelle King, the creators of the show, are very giving, warm, open writers and creators. And then you have our star who is Carrie Preston, who developed Elsbeth, you know, for the past 14 years. And this great character that now has her own show, and will be able to be the lead on. And it was great to be back at work. Because, you know, our show has so many facets to it; great writing, great acting also just great guest stars that are coming on and it's a thriller every week. So we were very excited to get back to it," Pierce said.

What can viewers expect from your character?

"Well, CW Wagner is a NYPD Captain who's very politic. He's looking to move up the ranks. And he has the obligation of allowing this consent decree lawyer to oversee and watch and observe his investigation. And that's Elsbeth Tascioni. And it is begrudgingly something that he has to accept. And while she becomes a thorn in his side, he also recognizes that she's a really good investigator. So it's beneficial to him," Pierce said.
