Dallas Junction Construction Will Cause Back-Up For 90 Days On I-235

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation wants to prepare drivers for interstate work, which will cause backups in the metro on Interstate 235.

The Dallas junction is narrowing for the next few months.

For the next couple of months across the state, you'll see 150 highways and interstate work zones.

Before the evening of April 29th, Bryce Boyer with ODOT says there will be slowdowns on the north and southbound lanes of Interstate 235 shifted between Interstate 40/Dallas Junction and Sheridan Avenue for bridge rehabilitation. 

"We are going to have to narrow some lanes, we are going to have to shift some lanes, and it's going to cause some backups," said Boyer. 

Boyer says work will be done on the bridges over Reno Ave, Sheridan Ave, and above the Union Pacific railroad. "It's going to go on for 90 days. Three-month contract 24/7 every day, but it's not going to be both lanes simultaneously," said Boyer. 

Work will start on the Southbound lanes and then northbound. A construction company from Savanna, Oklahoma, will complete the $4 million project. 

Boyer says to avoid the traffic, use Interstate 44 or Interstate 35. He adds that you can download the DRIVE OKLAHOMA app if you want even more options before hitting the roads.

"You can see all of our work zones' real-time traffic information, so if you need to find an alternative route, you can," said Boyer. 

All lanes will be open during Memorial Day Weekend and July 4.
