Okie Kola Cake

Description

This nostalgic Southern cake is a favorite. Okie Kola, made by Okola-Homa Soda Co., is the perfect soda for this sweet and chocolatey cake.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups Shawnee Mills All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (12-ounce can) Okola-Homa Okie Kola Soda
  • 1 cup Braum’s Butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup baking cocoa
  • 2 Equally Yolked eggs, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup Braum’s Buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon Griffin’s Vanilla
  • 1 (12-ounce can) Okola-Homa Okie Kola Soda
  • 1/2 cup Braum’s Butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup baking cocoa
  • 4 cups confectioners’ sugar, sifted

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9-by-13-inch baking pan.
  2. Step 2: Whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Step 3: Combine Okie Kola, butter and cocoa in a small saucepan, bringing to a boil while stirring. As soon as mixture comes to a boil, remove from heat, and add to flour mixture, stirring to combine.
  4. Step 4: In a small bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk and vanilla until blended. Add to flour mixture, whisking constantly.
  5. Step 5: Pour mixture into pan, baking 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  6. Step 6: About 15 minutes before cake is done, prepare glaze. To make glaze, bring Okie Kola to a boil in a small saucepan, then simmer 10-15 minutes or until liquid is reduced to 1/2 cup. Stir in butter and cocoa until butter is melted, then remove from heat. Add confectioners' sugar; stirring until smooth. Pour immediately over hot cake.
