Okla. Senate Overrides Governor's Veto Of Bill Incentivizing Law Enforcement Careers

State Senators overrode a veto from Governor Stitt Wednesday on a bill that would increase retirement benefits for law enforcement.

The bill would also give veteran officers more incentives to stay on the force.

Supporters of the bill say it’s a necessity because departments are struggling to recruit and maintain officers, and have been since 2020.

For the bill to go into law, the House would also have to override the veto.

Attorney General Gentner Drummond made the following remarks today after the state Legislature overrode Gov. Stitt’s veto of Senate Bill 102:

“I want to commend the legislators who overrode the Governor’s veto of SB 102. By stepping up for law enforcement, lawmakers are strengthening the recruitment and retention of police officers who will help ensure secure communities. I am proud to stand with the men and women who risk their lives to protect our families, and I am thankful for the Legislature’s decisive action.”
