An embattled metro doctor with a suspended license has been charged for allegedly stealing an ambulance from a hospital in Midwest City.

Midwest City police said Doctor Amy Darter was arrested in April for stealing the ambulance from St. Anthony Midwest.

Darter, who now goes by the last name Weaver, did not get far from the hospital before officers caught up to the stolen ambulance. According to an arrest affidavit, a paramedic reported the theft and followed Darter. The police department released the 911 call.

Paramedic: “Hey, I think one of our ambulances might have been stolen from out of our back parking lot.”

The paramedic was able to stop Darter at an intersection near Tinker Air Force Base.

Paramedic: “Whatcha doing? Can you turn off the vehicle?”

Police found a hospital security video that showed Darter getting into an unlocked ambulance and driving away.

Darter's arrest came five months after the Oklahoma Medical Board suspended the doctor's license following an investigation. Patients filed dozens of complaints against the allergy doctor last year, eventually causing Darter to file bankruptcy and close the northwest Oklahoma City clinic.

Darter did not have a criminal record until April when prosecutors charged her with one count of larceny of an automobile.

News 9 called Darter's attorney for an interview about the felony charge and the motive for the theft but did not hear back. The hospital also did not comment about the stolen ambulance.

Jail records indicated Darter was arrested by Midwest City police and taken to OU Medical Center where she was medically OR'd. She was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center two weeks later and released on bond the same day.
