Oklahoma Power Companies Working To Restore Electricity, Over 10,000 Residents Still Affected

After a severe weather system Tuesday night knocked out power for nearly 60,000 households across Oklahoma, OG&E has provided an update to their restoration efforts.

Crews have made progress, but OG&E said they estimate that 14,781 customers are still without power.

As for the state's other power companies, OAEC is reporting 1,885 customers, and PSO reports 60 customers are still without power.

"We have right now 1,300 members in our restoration crew," OG&E senior communications specialist Carson Cunningham said. "That includes OG&E members, it also includes what's part of mutual assistance."

OG&E said they understand the importance of power, especially during extreme heat.

As OG&E works through that heat to restore power, homeowners without power are facing the same danger.

Some residents in the Oklahoma City metro waited for nearly twenty hours on Wednesday during the extreme heat advisory for their power to be restored.

An Oklahoma City woman says some of her household items began to melt.

"All my food's gone bad, my makeup's melted, my candles melted," Oklahoma City resident Sharon Vaughn said. "It was 92 degrees in the house, I think we're at 89 or 90 right now... There's no breeze. There's nothing."

In the meantime, OG&E has several free cool zones for people needing a place to cool down.
