Three fraud suspects were caught on Tuesday after a high-speed pursuit on southwest Oklahoma City streets.
Police said one of the suspects had a felony warrant out of New York. They all face conspiracy, fraud, and eluding police charges.
Police say Gregory Lee, Jermain Litchmore, and Shawn Fagan tried to cash fraudulent checks at two metro Midfirst Bank locations. A teller at the second bank near Reno Avenue and Portland Avenue tipped off police.
“An officer was just pulling in and spotted them, tried to pull them over,” said Msgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department. “They refused to pull over.”
The suspects drove through southwest Oklahoma City trying to elude officers.
Police said the car sideswiped another driver but never caused any crashes. Officers terminated the ground pursuit due to the danger the chase posed to other drivers.
“Our helicopter, Air One took over the pursuit and basically what that does is allow officers in the area to be mindful of where the suspects are headed without directly engaging them in a chase,” said Knight.
“This is a chase that lasted for quite a while,” said Jim Gardner, Bob Mills Sky News 9 pilot.
Bob Mills Sky News 9 caught the end of the pursuit. The suspects ditched their car and took off on foot.
“Now they’ve ended up in the Burger King parking lot here just south of (Interstate 240) on May,” said Gardner.
Police said the men grabbed bags out of the vehicle’s truck and ran from officers at the scene. However, the trio did not get far. Police took the men into custody and booked them into the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
“It has come to an end, it has come to an end,” said Gardner.
Police say they never located the driver who was sideswiped, they do not believe anyone was injured. Officers also found the bags the men pulled out of the car trunk but did not say what was inside the bags.
