President Biden Approves Disaster Declaration For Chickasaw Nation

President Joe Biden declared a major disaster for the Chickasaw Nation and ordered federal aid to help the Tribal Nation's efforts in areas affected by severe storms from March 14 to March 15, 2024.

According to a press release from The White House, federal funding is now available to the Chickasaw Nation, and certain private nonprofits on a cost-sharing basis. The aid would be for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities that were damaged by the storms.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for the Chickasaw Nation, according to the release.

The release stated that Mr. Maona N. Ngwira of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been appointed to coordinate Federal recovery operations in those affected areas.
