Oklahoma House Democrats are calling on Gov. Kevin Stitt to call for a Special Session to impeach Corporation Commissioner Todd Hiett after reports of sexual misconduct and public intoxication.

The alleged incidents were originally reported in an open letter by Commissioner Bob Anthony, who called for Hiett's resignation.

In a press release, the House Democrats said state elected officials are liable and subject to impeachment for willful neglect of duty, corruption in office, habitual drunkenness, incompetency, or any offense involving moral turpitude committed while in office, according to the Oklahoma Constitution.

House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson said the incidents reported are an example of an abuse of power and status to take advantage of people.

“I want to formally request the Governor to issue a Special Session to impeach Commissioner Todd Hiett after several reports of his habitual drunkenness and moral turpitude. There is no place for such inappropriate and appalling behavior, especially sexual assault," Munson said.

She said if those in power are not held accountable for their actions, regardless of political party, they will continue to abuse their power.

"If the Republican supermajority truly believes in accountability, keeping the trust of Oklahomans, and maintaining the Oklahoma Constitution, the Governor will heed this call," Munson said.
