Final touches were being made for opening day at the Jenks Outlet Mall.
"A whole lot of people, we're all very, very happy," said local Linda Vangeisen.
Vangeisen said she's excited to shop at stores like J. Crew, Nike, and Under Armour but knew the discounts would come at a cost.
"I don't have any other concerns other than the road traffic. I can't get to the mall if I've got so much traffic," Vangeisen said.
Jenks Police Chief Jason Jackson said his department expected many people at the mall on opening day, so they had extra officers around to help direct traffic and keep everyone safe.
"Yes, it's going to be busy and probably congested and everybody is getting used to the area, so have a little patience; we will get through this. I don't think it's going to be as bad as everybody thinks it is and we will get to enjoy our new outlet mall," Chief Jackson said.
The mall has 3 main entrances and exits to help people get in and out of the shopping area.
"If you are traveling westbound on the creek turnpike, you will exit Peoria-Elm, you will use the left two turn lanes and the Texas turnaround to access outlet drive that will take you to the mall," said Chief Jackson.
There was also a Jenks Police command post on site for opening weekend, but some said it would still be a while before they made their first trip.
"I probably won't go for like a year until the traffic dies down, to be honest," said Katie Kemp.
The mall is set to open to the public on August 15th, 2024.
