Louisville City FC has signed forward Phillip Goodrum from FC Tulsa, activating the record-setting release clause in his contract. Goodrum, 27, has agreed to a multiyear deal with LouCity.
He is expected to play in Saturday's crucial Eastern Conference match against the Charleston Battery. Goodrum, one of the USL Championship's top scorers with 38 goals in 79 games over the past three seasons, previously tied for second in the Golden Boot race in 2022 and set a single-season scoring record with 12 goals at FC Tulsa. He joined FC Tulsa in 2023 midseason.
LouCity Head Coach Danny Cruz praised Goodrum’s goal-scoring ability and work ethic, noting that his addition comes at a critical time due to injuries.
This transfer represents a new intra-USL Championship record, highlighting the league's increasing investment in top talent. USL Head of Global Football Development Oliver Wyss noted that this deal reflects a significant shift in how clubs approach player acquisitions.
