Heading into Sunday, it had been a successful "918 Weekend" for the Tulsa Drillers. Rebranded as the Tulsa Raft Racers, the club had won four of the first five games of the homestand against Midland, with all four victories coming on walk-offs. But on Sunday, Midland put together a late rally for an 8-4 victory in the series finale.
The RockHounds quickly jumped on the board with 3 runs in the first two innings thanks to a two-run homer and an RBI double.
The Raft Racers got one of the runs back in the second inning on Carlos Avila’s two-out single that scored Bubba Alleyne.
Tulsa evened the score in the bottom of the 4th on a Jose Izarra ground out, and a Chris Newell RBI single to right field.
Midland would break the 3-3 tie in the 7th inning, thanks to a solo homer by Jordan Groshans, and a two-run homer off the bat of Brennan Milone.
Noah Miller had an RBI single in the bottom of the 9th to cap the scoring for Tulsa.
The Drillers are now 17-10 at ONEOK Field in the second-half, and have a 6-2-3 series record at home this season.
The Drillers now hit the road for a two-week road trip to Springfield and Corpus Christi. The series against the Cardinals opens Tuesday night at 6:35 pm.
