The Trump and Harris campaigns clashed over the economy on Tuesday, with both sides pledging to make homes more affordable, particularly for younger Americans.

In what could be a significant development in the 2024 presidential race, a new deal may guarantee a debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Republican Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance rallied voters in the battleground state of Michigan on Tuesday, emphasizing economic issues and inflation.

“Michigan is going red,” Vance said to supporters.

Vance focused on the struggles young Americans face in the current economy.

“You talk to a young person today — young people cannot afford to buy a home in their own country. We're turning a generation of 20- and 30-year-olds into permanent debtors,” Vance added.

Vice President Kamala Harris also addressed economic concerns with a new campaign ad focusing on affordable housing. Her plan includes building 3 million housing units in four years, with new tax credits for builders targeting first-time homebuyers and $25,000 in tax credits for the buyers.

Harris has been off the campaign trail since last week’s Democratic National Convention, reportedly using the time to prepare for the Sept. 10 presidential debate.

Former President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he has reached an agreement with the Harris campaign on the rules for the debate, which will be moderated by ABC.

Trump, who still refers to ABC as “fake news,” said the debate will follow the same rules as the previous Trump-Biden debate.

The Harris campaign had proposed changing the rules so that candidates’ microphones remain open throughout the debate, a departure from the previous debate where mics were only on when it was the candidate’s turn to speak.

Trump also stated that the Harris campaign has not agreed to a proposed debate on Fox News on September 4. Both sides have indicated they may be open to a second debate in October.
