The recount of the 2024 Tulsa Mayoral recount was finished on Tuesday, with the final results largely unchanged.
Monroe Nichols and Karen Keith will advance to a runoff election, which will be on the Nov. 5 ballot. Third-place finisher Brent VanNorman had filed for a recount after missing second place by just 438 votes.
The Election Board is reconvening to certify the election results. The recounted tally will be released at that point.
So far, few vote totals have changed at the precinct level The votes that have changed were from ballots the machines accepted but which were rejected in the hand recount because of stray marks, considered “overvotes” and invalid. Osage County recounted 1,070, while Tulsa County counted more than 50,000. It’s been quite a process going over 56,000 ballots, precinct by precinct, counting, and sometimes recounting to make sure the numbers match.
The overall recount in Tulsa is likely the largest in state history, but with few numbers changing, it appears unlikely to change the outcome of Monroe Nichols and Karen Keith advancing to a runoff, without third-place finisher Brent Van Norman.
