Bristow Scraps Downtown Railroad Crossing Improvement Plan; Business Owners Relieved

The city of Bristow has now scrapped a plan that would have improved railroad crossings downtown. 

Business owners are relieved after the council voted to rescind the 8th Street improvement that would shut down the road.

The vote also tables the discussion for the other crossings downtown until they can get a better understanding of the project. 

“I'm grateful that they listened to our concerns and that they decided to rescind 8th Street. I'm grateful that Chris took ownership, that there should have been a lot more research and hopefully communication with those that are going to be affected again, that I hope that never happens again. “ said Carla Holzrichter.

Mayor Kris Wyatt who says when they received several letters from business owners, they knew they needed to take another look at this decision.

“We're not the enemy here. I mean this was not done with the intention of shutting down anyones business or eliminating access or restricting access to a business. This was, this was a misstep." Wyatt said.

For now, the city wants to discuss things with the railroad before they go any further.

As for business owners, some say they will be more engaged in the city process from now on.
