University of Oklahoma running back Gavin Sawchuk has been named to the 2024 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and is a semifinalist for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy, it was announced Tuesday.
Sawchuk, a redshirt sophomore from Littleton, Colorado, is one of 22 college football players being recognized for exceptional community service.
Sawchuk has been active in various humanitarian efforts, including a service trip to Hawai’i where he helped with wildfire relief, and a mission to South Africa, improving local communities. He has also contributed locally by packing meals for Haiti, building beds for Oklahoma children, and supporting various community initiatives.
On the field, Sawchuk has played 17 games for OU, rushing for 884 yards and 10 touchdowns. He led the team in rushing yards and touchdowns in 2023 and has started every game this season.
Sawchuk is the eighth OU player to make the Good Works Team, following other notable past members.
Sawchuk is also one of 11 players nominated for this year’s Wuerffel Trophy. The Wuerffel Trophy winner will be the Good Works Team captain, which will be announced on Dec. 12 during The Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN. Fans can vote at ESPN.com/Allstate until November 15th.
The Good Works Team, established in 1992 and sponsored by Allstate since 2008, honors players for their outstanding community service.
