A farm in Coweta allows you to pick your own flowers.
The Flower Meadow opened to the public in July 2023. It is owned and operated by Julie and Grant Dawkins and their four teenage children.
“We had all these flowers, and it was more than our family could pick,” Julie continued, saying, “So, we invited the public in, and that is when we saw the joy of people experiencing how flowers grow and how to pick flowers.”
The gates to the U-pick flowers open at 9 a.m. Monday through Saturday and stay open until dark. A path leads guests to a station with all the materials needed to start cutting flowers. There are three container options: The Flower Meadow Cup for $20, white Basket for $60, and the Black Bucket for $90.
The flower varieties change with the seasons, so there are always new flowers to find.
“In the spring, we have the tulips, ranunculus, stock, all the fun spring fragrant things, and then in the summer, it is more of your zinnias and cosmos, and dahlias head into the fall,” said Julie.
On the way to the meadow is an area with the Dawkins' farm animals. Julie said they realized soon after opening that the goats, chickens, ducks, pig and rabbit were just as much a part of the experience as the flowers.
“When people came, and they brought their children, we saw really just eye-opening experience that exposing kids to farm animals they do not necessarily see, like the chickens, are some of their favorites,” she added.
The Flower Meadow sees families, couples and groups celebrating birthdays and engagements. Julie said they have even had an elopement on the property.
“I think this place is not what it would be without the people that come and visit,” she said. “When you have pretty things, you want to share them and so I think that was the beginning of everything.”
Everything she had hoped for years ago.
“As a mom of now teenagers, I kind of wanted to create an atmosphere of what I wanted when my kids were little,” Julie continued, saying, “A place for families to come and just have a couple hours to be in nature, explore, discover, and to meet animals.”
A quiet place where beauty is all around you.
“A lot of times people just need space to talk. You cannot always get that at the movie theater, or at dinner when you are being rushed to the next table, and so here you just get time,” said Julia.
It is time without distractions that she believes makes The Flower Meadow so special.
“We never see anybody on their phone unless they are taking a selfie or a picture,” Julie said. “When that happened, it was like 'Oh we need more of these things'.”
The Flower Meadow is located at 27304 E 151st St S in Coweta. For more information visit The Flower Meadow website.
