Inspectors are making sure all of the nearly 70 rides at the Tulsa State Fair are ready to go for the start of the fair on Thursday.

The state labor department is expecting big crowds and long lines. The finishing touches were being put on inspections to each of the rides on Wednesday to make sure everyone has a fun and safe time.

The midway is filled with fast rides that go upside down, side to side and everything in between.

Inspectors know the crowds are coming and are working to get each ride inspected.

They start at the bottom of each ride and look all the way to the top to make sure everything is properly in place.

Inspectors also check the lap bars, restraints and safeties on each ride.

State Labor Department chief amusement ride inspector Allen McElyea says rider safety is their main goal.

“Oklahoma's one of the very few states that actually have state-employed inspectors,” he said. “Oklahoma is up there with the top states for having a strict inspection program.”

Inspectors plan to make sure rides are still in compliance throughout the duration of this year's fair.
