Tulsa Kids magazine is out with their new college and career planner. It's designed for students and their parents as they make plans for the next step after high school.
Tulsa Kids editor Betty Casey joined News On 6 to talk about what's in the guide and how you can get a copy.
"When my kids were going to college, there's so many ins and outs and so much information, and you just don't know unless you've done it before. So that's what the point of this publication is, and we do it once a year," she explained.
One of the key topics covered is the importance of completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as early as possible and you can start filling it out Dec. 1.
The guide also highlights the numerous free and affordable education options available in Oklahoma. This includes Tulsa Tech's free programs, the Tulsa Achieves Initiative at Tulsa Community College, and Oklahoma's Promise, which offers four years of free tuition at state colleges and universities.
Beyond finances, the planner addresses other crucial considerations, such as maintaining strong grades throughout high school and finding the right college fit.
"If you're applying to a really competitive school, you might need to write a college essay. So we have tips on writing a great college essay, so things like that.," Casey noted.
The Tulsa Kids College and Career Planner is available now in the latest issue of Tulsa Kids magazine. Families are encouraged to pick up a copy and start planning for their student's future.
