'We Have A Lot Of People Praying In Tulsa:' Oklahomans In Florida Brace For Hurricane Milton

Florida is getting ready to be hit by a major hurricane; the second one in less than two weeks. 

Carrie Roxby moved from Tulsa to Lakeland, Florida in 2014, and Hurricane Milton will be the fourth hurricane to hit land near her since she's been there.

"This one scares me a little bit, but we are still going to hunker down," she said.

She's staying at home in Lakeland with her family. Her dad is a 72-year-old veteran, who she says is not mobile and wants to stay. Her stepchildren are also staying with her, who lost their house in Georgia to Hurricane Helene last week. 

She says they've prepared their house and have plenty of supplies, food and water.

"We made it through Irma, Irma hit us at a Category 3, the eye went right over the top of us, we had very minimal damage with that, so we're just praying that Milton is going to slow down," Carrie said.

Gina Conroy currently lives in Tulsa and is visiting her dad and stepmom in Clermont, Florida, outside Orlando.

She says she tried to leave before the storm hit but couldn't.

"You know you go to book a flight and they are gone, or you try to rent a car and there's a lot of people, there's gas that's hard to find, we went out to get gas this morning and I think my dad was there pumping for 20 minutes just pumping the gas because everybody was getting gas," she said.

Her stepmom Rachel Megna has lived in Florida for 18 years and says this is one of the biggest storms they've ever seen.

"We don't get too excited when storms are coming; when we see our fellow Floridians that have been here all their lives starting to prep, then we get nervous," Rachel said.

Gina says it's nerve-wracking, but staying in Florida seems to be her safest option right now.

"We're going to prepare for the worst, but hope and pray for the best, and we have a lot of people praying in Tulsa," Gina said.

Gina says she hopes to fly back home to Tulsa on Friday, depending on the situation.
