An Afghan citizen in Oklahoma City charged with planning an attack on Election Day is expected in federal court on Thursday.
Nasir Tawhedi, along with his 17-year-old brother-in-law, was arrested last week in Moore after investigators say the two planned to target large crowds of people on Election Day, allegedly in the name of the Islamic State, or ISIS.
Federal prosecutors say the two intended to die in their planned attack as martyrs, however, the two were arrested after allegedly trying to buy assault rifles and 500 rounds of ammunition from undercover agents.
The Department of Homeland Security says Tawhedi possesses a Special Immigrant Visa, which he obtained after entering the United States in 2021 as a parolee.
