Two Webbers Falls brothers are relieved after both received life-saving kidney transplants after being on the waiting list for several years.

Stevie Ray and Cash Carter and their other two brothers all have the same rare kidney condition.

The brothers tell me their new kidneys mean they can go back to work and go places without having to worry about hooking up for dialysis.

They say it’s special to be able to take on this new chapter together.

News On 6 first introduced you to the Carter family back in July of 2023.

The brothers all have Alport syndrome, a rare kidney condition caused by a lack of skin cells found in the kidneys, ears, and eyes.

Having Alport syndrome means they’ll all need kidney transplants someday.

One of the brothers got his kidney years ago, and Stevie Ray and Cash got theirs a few months ago.

The youngest brother doesn’t need it just yet.

"I feel the best I've ever felt in my life,” said Cash Carter. “I get to do whatever I want and it's really fun."

"Having the freedom to not have to worry about hooking up on time for dialysis in order to wake up at a certain time,” said Stevie Ray Carter. “I was able to attend a lot more family activities. Being able to help my dad with cattle and farming again is something that's really big for me."

Stevie Ray’s kidney was donated by a family friend, who kept it a secret until the very end.

"I found out quite literally at the last minute as we were walking back for surgery and she just walked up and hugged me,” said Stevie Ray Carter. “I said, 'You're my donor?' So it was really kind of a surprise for me."

Cash and his donor didn’t know each other.

"She saw our post on Facebook, and she was willing to donate, and she was a perfect match for me,” said Cash Carter. “So she went through the process and I still talk to her regularly."

They’re thankful there are people out there who would be willing to sacrifice to save others.

"It makes me believe that there's still good people in the world,” said Cash Carter. “There's still people who want to do good stuff for others, even if they don't know them."

The brothers and their families say they are thankful for all the people who prayed for them, wrote letters to them, and donated to their cause, as well as all the doctors and nurses.
