The 23rd annual Safety Spooktacular is set to take over the streets of Broken Arrow this Saturday, offering families a fun and safe alternative to traditional trick-or-treating.

Ethan Hutchins of the Broken Arrow Police Department and Mindy Parker-Treat from QuikTrip joined News On 6 to talk about the event's highlights and new features.

Candy, Cars, and Costumes

“The candy is the main attraction,” said Ethan Hutchins. “We'll have 100 vendors, local businesses, that will be bringing their own candy. We'll have candy to pass out, and of course, all for really cool cars line up a main street. And it's just a great opportunity for families to bring their kids out and have an alternative to trick or treating.”

Positive Interactions with Law Enforcement

Hutchins emphasized the importance of the event's focus on community engagement with police.

“It's an opportunity for kids to interact with police in a different setting, so we'll have a lot of law enforcement on hand to have conversations, ask questions, and have that positive interaction that maybe they haven't had in the past,” he said.

QuikTrip's Commitment to Safety

Mindy Parker-Treat, with QuikTrip, explained the company's involvement in the event.

“Quick trip is, you know, really focused on, is safety, and that's near and dear to us and our cut, our customers, our employees. And so being able to partner with Ethan and the BA PD has just been a really great partnership that we've had for a few years now,” she said.

A Mobile App for Convenience and Safety

Hutchins also introduced a new mobile app that will enhance the event experience.

“This year, you can link, log on to the mobile app and find out if there's a business participating on Main Street. You could find out where their booth is located, and then if a child goes missing, there's a report on that app where a parent can fill it out and get an officer to respond quickly.”

A Family-Friendly Event for All

The Safety Spooktacular is free and open to the public, not just Broken Arrow residents. Hutchins shared the event details.

“It's from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, we'll shut down all of Main Street in the Rose district, and it's going to be a great time. We invite everybody to show up,” said Hutchins.

With the promise of candy, cool cars, and positive interactions with law enforcement, the Broken Arrow Safety Spooktacular is sure to be a hit with families across the region.
