The Tulsa Ballet is bringing the holiday spirit to the Tulsa Performing Arts Center this December with its production of "The Nutcracker".
Now in its fourth year, the 2021 iteration of this holiday classic has captivated audiences with modern updates and nods to the original rendition of this timeless tale.
The ballet, featuring choreography by Val Caniparoli and Ma Cong, offers 11 performances from Dec. 8 through Dec. 22. The production showcases over 1,000 costumes, intricate moving scenery, vibrant holiday projections, and a cast of more than 150 children from Tulsa and nearby communities, including Sand Springs, Broken Arrow, and Claremore.
“This production modernizes the look of the show while maintaining its traditional charm,” said Marcello Angelini, Tulsa Ballet’s artistic director. “It’s an incredible experience to share this magical journey with our community.”
The story takes audiences to 19th-century Germany, where young Marie embarks on an enchanting adventure alongside her Nutcracker Prince, journeying through the Land of Snow and into the Kingdom of Sweets.
“It’s magical and created for all ages. We want audiences to experience it through the wonder of a child’s eyes,” said choreographer Caniparoli.
In addition to public performances, the Tulsa Ballet continues its annual Hope for the Holidays initiative, partnering with local social services to provide free tickets to families in need, supported by community donations.
