Donald Trump has officially been sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.
“It’s time for us to unify, unify as Americans, unify as Oklahomans,” Chris Paul, an Oklahoman who made the trip to D.C. for the Inauguration, said.
The highly anticipated transition of power took place in the United States Capitol rotunda just after 11 a.m. Monday.
“It's such an exciting time in our history,” Paul said.
Oklahomans in D.C.
Paul is one of many Oklahomans who flocked to D.C. hoping to witness the Inauguration in person before it was moved inside.
Paul hoped to see President Donald Trump take his oath of office and deliver his second inaugural address on the National Mall, but plans changed due to cold weather.
“It's a, you know, a little disappointing,” Paul said.
Despite the change, Oklahoma lawmakers made sure everyone still had a special experience.
Oklahoma Watch Parties
Instead, he joined state legislators and leaders at a watch party hosted by Sen. Markwayne Mullin.
“It’s also really cool to be in a room full of Oklahomans, you know, celebrating this moment, you know, with Senator Mullin’s watch party here. So that's been a real honor and a nice thing to be a part of,” Paul said.
Other supporters of President Trump gathered at Capitol One Arena where the public festivities were moved.
The Momentum of the Moment
“You can just feel the momentum of the moment here in D.C. and it's just really cool to be a part of that,” Paul said.
And Paul added the presidential inauguration signals a time of moving forward.
“We need to rebuild America. We need to kind of rebuild it almost from the ground up. And that's going to require everybody,” Paul said.
