BoxCar Woody stopped by the News 9 Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to discuss their unique furniture.
In the heart of Stockyards City, BoxCar Woody is a treasure trove of American railroad history and one-of-a-kind furniture. Ryan Richardson, the mastermind behind the operation, transforms reclaimed wood from retired railroad boxcars into timeless pieces.
"Boxcars have a shelf life of about 50 years," Richardson said. "In 1960s and 70s are the trains that we're chasing right now to pull out the end of life wood before they're scrapped."
Each piece is as unique as the history it carries. "It's Americana when you look at how it's built," Richardson said.
One standout piece at BoxCar Woody features wood reclaimed from the International Harvester building at 6th and Shields in Oklahoma City. The building, deconstructed in 2017, yielded 9,500 sticks of southern antique yellow pine. The material has been incorporated into many of the store's signature designs, blending Oklahoma history with railroad charm.
