Authorities and the bomb squad responded to a report of a suspicious device in a storage unit in northwest Oklahoma City.

A section of Northwest 10th Street was temporarily closed Thursday evening after a caller reported finding a possible grenade in a storage unit at SecurSafe Self Storage, police said.

Officers responded to the storage facility at 5110 Northwest 10th St. around 5:45 p.m. after the caller, who had purchased the storage unit, discovered a box inside containing what they believed to be a grenade. The buyer had removed the box to NW 10th, prompting authorities to shut down the road between N. MacArthur Boulevard and N. Purdue Avenue.

The Oklahoma City Police Department’s bomb squad examined the device and determined it was a novelty item, not a real grenade. After declaring the item safe, bomb squad members searched the rest of the storage unit and found no additional suspicious items.

NW 10th was reopened once the scene was cleared. No injuries were reported.
