The Jim Norick Arena will host its final rodeo before being torn down and rebuilt, marking the end of an era for Oklahoma’s rodeo community.

“Oh, it’s so special,” McCoy said. “I mean, especially for somebody like myself that grew up in Oklahoma. I mean, like our family trips would be going to Oklahoma City to the Jim Norick Arena to watch huge rodeos.”

McCoy, a former professional rodeo cowboy turned producer, said stepping into the arena still gives him chills.

“Now turning to a producer and get to be a part of, I guess, the last chapter of history of this Jim Norick Arena,” he said. “And now it seems like you walk into the arena just like yesterday and just make the hair stand up on the back of your neck looking at the history that’s behind this location.”

The rodeo will feature more than 400 contestants, including professional rodeo cowboys and cowgirls from across the world, Canada, and Mexico.

You get to see all the main events in rodeo, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, the women’s events, calf roping, and, of course, everybody’s favorite, bull riding, and be a big part of the rodeo as well.”

The rodeo takes place Feb. 24-25 at 7:30 p.m. each night. Tickets start in the mid-$20 range.
