Oklahomans are stepping up to fight hunger in Haiti, with Mission of Hope working to deliver 11 million meals to those in need.
Drew Garrison, the nonprofit’s chief operating officer, emphasized the crisis.
“Over half the population doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from,” he said.
Oklahoma women Miranda Burcham and Lisa Dooley helped raise nearly $1 million to fund food shipments.

Garrison recalled telling Miranda about the need.
“I gave her the opportunity to back down a little bit, but I knew she was gonna go for every bit of it,” he said.
Violence in Haiti has made direct aid delivery difficult, requiring shipments to be funneled through the Dominican Republic. Despite challenges, Garrison reassured donors that all funds are going directly to meals.
“We actually delivered meals directly to some of the most famine-stricken places this week,” he said.
With just $25,000 left to raise, Garrison encouraged continued support.
